Kenya, officially the Republic of Kenya (Swahili: Jamhuri i Kenya), is East Africa. Covering 580,367 square kilometers (224,081 sq mi), Kenya is the 48th largest country in the world by total area. With a population of over 47.6 million, Kenya is ranked 29th in terms of population, according to the 2019 census.  Kenya's geography, climate and populations vary greatly, from cold, snow-capped mountain peaks (Batian, Nelion, and Point Lenana on Mount Kenya) with extensive surrounding forests, wildlife, and fertile agricultural areas, to temperate climates in western countries and rift valley districts and less productive arid places. arid and semi-arid regions; and absolute deserts (Chalbi Desert and Nyiri Desert).

According to archaeological dating of related artifacts and skeletal material, Kushite speakers first settled in the lowlands of Kenya between 3200 and 1300 BC, a phase known as the Pastoral Neolithic of the Low Savannah. Nilotic herders (ancestors of the Kenyan Nilotic speakers) began migrating from present-day South Sudan to Kenya around 500 BC. E. The Bantu people settled on the coast and in the interior of Kenya between 250 BC. and 500 AD European contacts with the Portuguese Empire began in AD 1500, although effective colonization of Kenya began in the 19th century during European hinterland exploration. Modern Kenya emerged from the protectorate established by the British Empire in 1895 and the subsequent colony of Kenya that began in 1920. Numerous disputes between Britain and the colony led to the Mau Mau Revolution, which started in 1952, and the subsequent declaration of independence in 1963. After gaining independence, Kenya remained a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The current constitution was adopted in 2010 to replace the 1963 independence constitution.

Kenya is a presidential representative democratic republic in which elected officials represent the people and the president is the head of state and government. Kenya is a member of the United Nations, Commonwealth of Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, COMESA, International Criminal Court and other international organizations. Kenya, with a GNI of 1,460, is a lower middle income country. Kenya's economy is the largest in East and Central Africa, and Nairobi is a major regional trade center. Agriculture is the largest sector: tea and coffee are traditional cash crops, and fresh flowers are fast growing export commodities. The service sector is also an important engine of the economy, especially tourism. Kenya is a member of the East African Community's trading bloc. However, some international trade organizations refer to it as part of the Greater Horn of Africa. Africa is Kenya's largest export market, followed by the European Union.
