Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago is the southernmost island nation in the Caribbean and is known for its abundance of fossil fuels. It consists of the main islands of Trinidad and Tobago and much smaller islands, 130 km (81 miles) south of Grenada and 11 km (6.8 miles) from the northeastern coast of Venezuela. It shares a maritime boundary with Barbados in the northeast, Grenada in the northwest, and Venezuela in the south and west. Trinidad and Tobago is generally considered part of the West Indies. According to some geographical definitions, Trinidad and Tobago is also part of the Windward Islands and the Lesser Antilles, while others consider Trinidad and Tobago as a separate group of islands.

Trinidad was inhabited by Native Americans for centuries after Christopher Columbus arrived in 1498 and before it became a colony of the Spanish Empire. Unlike most Caribbean countries and regions that rely heavily on tourism, the economy is an industry that focuses primarily on petroleum and petrochemicals. Much of the country's wealth comes from its abundant reserves of oil and natural gas.

Trinidad and Tobago is well known for its African and Indian culture and is not only reflected in its large and famous carnival, Diwali and Hosai celebrations, but also Steelpan, Limbo, Calypso, Soca, Rhapso and Paran. It is also the birthplace of music styles such as Chatney, and Chatney Soca.
