Info about North Macedonia (History)

North Macedonia is a country in Southeastern Europe. It gained independence in 1991 as one of the successors to Yugoslavia. North Macedonia is a landlocked country bordering Kosovo to the northwest, Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. It constitutes approximately the northern third of Macedonia's larger geographic region. Skopje, the capital's largest city, is home to a quarter of the country's 1.83 million population. The majority of the inhabitants are Macedonians, South Slavs. Albanians form a significant minority at about 25%, followed by Turks, Roma, Serbs, Bosniaks, Aromanians and other minorities.

The history of the region begins with the Kingdom of Paeonia, a mixed government of Thrace and Illyria. In the second half of the 6th century BC, the area was conquered by the Achaemenid Empire in Persia and was incorporated into the Kingdom of Macedonia in the 4th century BC. The Roman Empire conquered the region in the 2nd century BC and made it part of the larger province of Macedonia. The area remained part of the Byzantine Empire, but was often attacked and settled by Slavic tribes since the 6th century C.E. After centuries of conflict between the Bulgarian, Byzantine, and Serbian Empires, it became part of the Ottoman Empire from the mid-14th century to the early 20th century, following the Balkan Wars of 1912 and 1913, north. The modern territory of Macedonia has arrived. Under Serbian control.

It was ruled by Bulgaria during World War I, but after the end of the war it returned to Serbian rule as part of the newly formed Kingdoms of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenes. During World War II, Bulgaria was re-ruled, founded in 1945 as a member of communist Yugoslavia, and survived until the peaceful separation of 1991. The country became a member of the United Nations in April 1993, but as a result of a dispute with Greece over the name "Macedonia", it is called the "Former Yugoslav Republic" (abbreviated as "FYR Macedonia" or "FYROM"). Approved under tentative explanation. In June 2018, Macedonia and Greece agreed to change the country name to "Republic of North Macedonia" and settled the dispute. This name change took effect in February 2019.

North Macedonia, a unified parliamentary republic, is a member of the United Nations, NATO, the Council of Europe, the World Bank, the OSCE, CEFTA, BSEC, and the WTO. Since 2005, it has also been a candidate for membership in the European Union. North Macedonia is a high- and middle-income country and has undergone considerable economic reforms in the development of an open economy since its independence. North Macedonia is a developing country, ranked 82nd in the Human Development Index, providing citizens with social security, universal health insurance and free primary and secondary education.
