Info about Laos (History)

Laos is a socialist country and the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia. Located in the center of the Indochina Peninsula, Laos borders Myanmar and China in the northwest, Vietnam in the east, Cambodia in the southeast, and Thailand in the west and southwest. The largest city in its capital is Vientiane.

Today, Laos dates back its historical and cultural identity to Lanzan, which existed in the 14th and 18th centuries as one of the largest kingdoms in Southeast Asia. Due to its central geographical location in Southeast Asia, the kingdom has become a hub for land trade and has become economically and culturally wealthy. After a period of civil war, Lanzan invaded three separate kingdoms: Luang Prabang, Vientiane and Champassak. In 1893, the three territories were placed under the French protectorate and merged to form what is now known as Laos. After the occupation of Japan, it became temporarily independent in 1945, but was re-colonized by France until it gained autonomy in 1949. Laos became independent in 1953 and had a constitutional monarchy under Sisavang Vong. The post-independence civil war began, and communist resistance supported by the Soviet Union fought a monarchy under the influence of a military system later supported by the United States. After the end of the Vietnam War in 1975, the communist Pathet Lao of Dwopabounya [needs explanation] came to power and ended the civil war. Later, Laos relied on military and economic assistance from the Soviet Union until its dissolution in 1991.

Laos is a member of the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement, ASEAN, East Asia Summit, and La Francophony. Laos applied for membership in the World Trade Organization in 1997. Full membership was granted on February 2, 2013. A one-party socialist republic that supports Marxism-Leninism and is governed by the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, non-governmental organizations cite repeated abuses such as torture and restrictions on civil liberties for national human rights. The records are routinely characterized as poor. , And the persecution of the minority.

The politically and culturally dominant Lao people make up 53.2% of the population, mainly in the lowlands. The Mon-Khmer, Hmong, and other indigenous hill tribes live in hills and hills. Laos' development strategy is based on the initiative to generate electricity from rivers and sell it to neighboring countries Thailand, China and Vietnam, and to become a "land" nation as evidenced by four constructions. A new railway connecting Laos and neighboring countries. Laos has been called by the World Bank as one of the fastest growing economies in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, with an average annual GDP growth rate of 7.4% since 2009.
