Barbados

Barbados is the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the easternmost island nation of the Caribbean Islands. It is 34 km (21 miles) long, 23 km (14 mi) wide and covers an area of ​​432 km2 (167 square miles). It is located in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, 100 km (62 miles) east of the Windward Islands and the Caribbean Sea. Barbados is located approximately 13 ° N on the equator. It is approximately 168 km (104 miles) east of Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 180 km (110 miles) southeast of Martinique, and 400 km (250 miles) northeast of Trinidad and Tobago. Barbados is outside the Atlantic Hurricane. The largest city in the capital is Bridgetown.

Inhabited by the Carinago people from the 13th century, and before that by other Americans, Spanish navigators owned Barbados in the late 15th century and claimed the Castilian crown. It first appeared on the map of Spain in 1511. The Portuguese Empire claimed the island between 1532 and 1536, but abandoned the island in 1620, simply introducing wild boars to supply enough meat whenever they visited the island. .. The British ship Olive Blossom arrived in Barbados on May 14, 1625. His subordinates of him owned the island in the name of James I. The first settlers arrived from England in 1627, and Barbados became a British and later British colony. During this period, the colony was run on a plantation economy and relied on the labor of enslaved Africans who worked on the island's plantations. The slave trade to the island continued until it was outlawed by the Slave Trade Act 1807, and the final liberation of Barbados's enslaved population took place over the five years following the Abolition Act 1833.

On November 30, 1966, Barbados became an independent state and the Commonwealth Realm, and Queen Elizabeth II became the Queen of Barbados. In October 2021, Sandra Mason was elected the first president of Barbados by Congress. On November 30, 2021, Mason replaced Queen Elizabeth with the head of state, and Barbados moved to the Republic.

Barbados has a population of 287,000, primarily of African descent. Although an Atlantic island, Barbados is closely associated with the Caribbean Sea and is ranked as one of the major tourist destinations.
